Learning to dive isn’t difficult, but like any activity worth doing, it requires some time and effort. While taking the PADI Open Water Diver course, you will experience three phases: Knowledge Development, Confined Water Dives and Open Water Dives

You will begin with knowledge development, during which you will learn basic principles and procedures of SCUBA diving, such as how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best gear, and what to consider when planning dives. There are five confined water dives, with each one building upon the previous dives. Over the course of these five dives, you will attain the skills you need to dive in open water. You will learn everything from setting up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask without surfacing. You’ll also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air – just in case. After you have completed your confined water dives, you will continue learning during four open water dives with me at a dive site. This is where you will put it all together and fully experience the underwater adventure – at the beginner level, of course. You may make these dives near where you live or at a more exotic destination.

Upon successful completion of the PADI Open Water Diver course, you will be prepared to dive safely. Your certification will be good throughout your lifetime.

If you are already a PADI Open Water Diver, you might want to move up and experience real adventure with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. To step beyond the PADI Open Water Diver level, you will make five dives and have the opportunity to try some of diving’s most rewarding and useful specialty activities, such as deep diving, digital underwater photography, wreck diving and much more. These skills make diving much more than underwater sightseeing.

With me, you complete the deep and underwater navigation Adventure Dives. These dives boost your confidence as you build these foundational skills. Then, you choose three additional dives from more than 15 Adventure Dives to complete your course. You can go diving at night, check out the local wrecks in the area or even fly through the ocean on a diver propulsion vehicle – all during your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. Following are the requirements for this course:

  • Must be a PADI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another training organization) and 15 years old (12 for Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)
  • Number of dives: Five dives
  • Adventure Dive options with me include, AWARE-fish identification, boat diving, deep diving, diver propulsion vehicle use, drift diving, multilevel and computer diving, night diving, peak performance buoyancy, underwater nature study, underwater navigation, underwater photography, and wreck diving
  • Each Adventure Dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course may be awarded credit toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver course

If you are a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and are ready to accept the challenges of being responsible for others’ safety while diving, the Rescue Diver course is for you. This course will expand your knowledge and experience level. Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is challenging, it is a rewarding way to build your confidence. Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. In this course, you will learn about:

  • Self-rescue and diver stress
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Panicked diver response
  • In-water rescue breathing protocols
  • Egress (exits)
  • Dive accident scenarios

If you are a PADI Rescue Diver, at least 18 years of age, have at least 60 logged dives, and feel ready to become a dive professional, the PADI Divemaster course is the one for you. Working closely with me, in this program you will expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers.

During the PADI Divemaster program, you will learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study as you study twelve topics ranging from dive theory to assisting student divers in training. You will complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that will stretch your ability to organize and solve problems. You will put this knowledge into action through an internship or series of practical training exercises.
